Our cottage / barn self catering holiday accommodation is well placed for bird watching in many of the North Norfolk and Norfolk coast nature reserves. NWT Cley Marshes is Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s oldest and best known nature reserve and Salthouse Marshes is one of a string of important birding sites along the north Norfolk coast. In Thursford itself is Thursford Wood, where the oaks are some of the oldest in the county, some over 500 years old. NWT Syderstone Common is particularly notable for the presence of a population of natterjack toads, as it is one of only two inland sites in the UK where the rare toad is still found. Foxley Wood is the largest area of ancient woodland now remaining in Norfolk.

Staying at our holiday cottage / barns, the nature reserves at Brancaster, Burham Overy, Holkham Bay, Salthouse Marshes, RSPB Titchwell Marsh, Blakeney Marshes and Cley Nature Reserve are all within easy reach.

Self catering holiday accommodation for Pensthorpe, Fakenham

Home of BBC Springwatch, Pensthorpe is just 10 minutes away from our holiday cottage and barn. Pensthorpe takes it role as the 'Natural Centre of Norfolk' very seriously: supporting a wide range of conservation activities, and addressing the particular problems faced by a number of endangered and vulnerable species. Red squirrels, corncrakes, cranes and other rare birds have all benefited from assistance from the Pensthorpe Conservation Trust.

Our holiday cottage / barns make an excellent base for building a self catering holiday around a day at Fakenham Races. The race course is just 20 minutes away with racing in January, February, March, April, May, October, November and December 2011. Fakenham prides itself on its friendly, casual atmosphere and it has no formal dress code. Children aged 16 and under are admitted free, and will love the thrill of the races and the roars of the crowd.

Just 5 minutes drive from Walsingham village, our self catering holiday accommodation is set on the Walsingham Road in Thursford, an ideal base to visit the shrine and enjoy the tranquility of the whole area. Walsingham has been a place of pilgrimage since medieval times and the original Lady of Walsingham shrine was founded in 1061.
